What to expect on the Premium Tours Cotswolds day trip

The Cotswolds are awkward to reach from London without a car. Most of the villages people come for are off the main rail lines and the buses between them are infrequent, so a day on public transport usually covers one village. Premium Tours' full-day Cotswolds trip does the driving for you. It leaves Victoria Coach Station at 08:15, stops in three villages and returns in the early evening, and it started from $106 per person when we checked.

The calendar below shows the departures and prices for your dates. The listing currently offers free cancellation up to 24 hours before the tour.

From London: Full-day Cotswolds Tour with Optional Lunch

★ 4.6 · more than 1,600 reviews · From $106 · Premium Tours · Free cancellation

Transportation is rated 4.8 out of 5 in GetYourGuide's category scores, and the guide 4.7. Recent reviews mention guides by name, including Eva, James, Rowan, Tom and Nicholas, and thank drivers such as Carlos, Joanne and Neil.

Value for money is the lowest of the three scores, at 4.4. Most of the lower-rated reviews are about how the day's time is divided between the villages and about the optional lunch.

Before you book, it helps to know four things about how the day is run:

  • Bibury gets 75 minutes, the shortest of the three stops, and the lunch is served there if you choose the lunch option.
  • Stow-on-the-Wold gets two hours, the longest stop, and opinions on it are more mixed than on the other two villages.
  • This is a full-size coach rather than a minibus, so you share the day with a large group.
  • The villages can change. In October 2025 several departures missed Bibury because of road problems.

The stop lengths are set out in the listing's itinerary, and its booking notes say that on rare occasions the lunch venue and the order of visits may change. About one review in ten is below four stars.

The tour suits travellers who want the driving done for them and are happy to explore each village on their own.

Should you add the lunch?

You choose between the lunch option and the tour-only option when you book, and the choice mostly affects your time in Bibury.

The lunch is two courses at The Swan Hotel, a 17th-century former coaching inn on the River Coln. Drinks are not included. Reviews of the food go both ways: recent five-star reviewers called it delicious and well worth it, while others describe food that was cold, bland or slow to arrive. One traveller in June 2026 listed fish and chips, mushroom ravioli, chicken breast and a Caesar salad as the choices on their day.

Both options get the same 75 minutes in Bibury. Because a whole coach orders at once, the meal can take up much of the stop, and a traveller in December 2024 said slow service used more than an hour of it. The booking notes also say the lunch venue can change on rare occasions.

The lunch option makes more sense if a sit-down meal in a village inn is part of the day you want. The tour-only option suits you better if you want the time in Bibury for walking, and the booking notes suggest buying food in Burford in that case, since Bibury has few places to eat.

Five tips before you book

  • Choose the lunch or tour-only option based on how you want to spend Bibury. If you go tour-only, buy food during the Burford stop.
  • Check the calendar for which days run in your month. Departures are less frequent in winter, so look at your dates before you plan the rest of the trip.
  • Be at Victoria Coach Station by 08:00 and head for gates 19 to 20. Check-in starts at 08:00 for the 08:15 departure. The station is large, so allow time to find the gates.
  • Bring a power bank. Travellers report that the coach has no charging points for phones.
  • Carry some change for the toilets. Some public toilets at the stops charge a fee.

How the Cotswolds coach day runs

The coach leaves Victoria at 08:15. The listing gives the duration as 11 hours, and London Toolkit, which also sells the tour, gives an arrival back in London of about 18:30. Around five hours of the day are spent on the coach: two hours out to Burford, 15 minutes on to Bibury, 30 minutes to Stow-on-the-Wold and two and a quarter hours back. The tour ends near Victoria Railway Station, and traffic on the return can make it later.

Stop lengths on the day can differ from the itinerary. One traveller in July 2025 timed two hours in Bibury and 75 minutes in Stow.

The listing describes a short walking tour in Bibury and a guided walk through the centre of Stow. Recent reviews mostly describe commentary on the coach, suggestions from the guide on what to see, and a time to be back at the coach. Some travellers who expected guided walks in each village were disappointed by this, and others liked being able to wander at their own pace.

The coach is a full-size one. A traveller in July 2025 who had expected a small van described a 70-person bus. The listing says the tour is not suitable for wheelchair users or people with mobility impairments, and luggage and large bags are not allowed.

The tour runs through the winter, on fewer days. London Toolkit lists Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from April to October and less frequent departures in the winter months. In December the sun sets at around 16:00, so the last stop and the drive back are in the dark. Our guide to the Cotswolds in November covers what closes in winter.

Stop 1: Burford

An hour and a half. Burford's High Street slopes down to the River Windrush, and the listing points out the small tea houses along it. Burford has more places to eat than Bibury, so tour-only travellers buy lunch here.

Stop 2: Bibury

Arlington Row, a terrace converted into weavers' cottages in the 17th century, faces the River Coln and the water meadow. The Swan Hotel, where the lunch option is served, is in the village, and the trout farm is a short walk away. Travellers on the tour-only option have the whole stop for walking.

Bibury has occasionally been dropped from the day. In October 2025 several departures did not stop there because of road problems, Woodstock was visited instead on at least one of them, and some travellers said they were told only after the tour had started. GetYourGuide's summary of recent reviews notes that some travellers wanted advance notice when Bibury or other stops changed. Separately, Gloucestershire County Council has been working on coach restrictions in Bibury, which our comparison of Cotswolds day trips covers.

Stop 3: Stow-on-the-Wold

Two hours, the longest stop. Stow is a small market town built around a large square, known for its fairs, with antique shops, inns and tea rooms.

Opinions on Stow are more mixed than on Burford or Bibury. Travellers who like browsing find two hours easy to fill. Others found it less attractive than the other villages, and a five-star reviewer in September 2026 called it underwhelming compared with the rest of the day.

Other ways to visit the Cotswolds from London

Small-group minibus tours, Oxford and Cotswolds combinations and private days with a driver also run from London. The picks below come from GetYourGuide and update automatically.

Other practical things to know

  • Guides vary. Most reviews praise the guide, and a few describe one who spent much of the day on rules and timekeeping or gave little history of the villages.
  • The free time is all outdoors. The listing asks you to bring comfortable shoes, and a waterproof helps on a wet day.

Is the Premium Tours Cotswolds day trip worth it?

Yes, if you have no car and want three Cotswolds villages in one day without organising the transport. The price started from $106 per person when we checked, and it includes the coach from Victoria, a guide all day and free time in Burford, Bibury and Stow-on-the-Wold. Lunch is an option at extra cost, and drinks and tips are not included.

The tour is rated 4.6 out of 5, with transport and the guide scoring highest. The tour-only option leaves Bibury free for walking.

It is probably not the best fit if you want a small group or want Bourton-on-the-Water as well. Two alternatives are worth comparing:

  • The small-group Cotswolds tour from Go Tours UK uses a minibus with a maximum of 16 passengers and visits Burford, Bibury, Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold, starting from South Kensington. It is rated 4.8 from more than 5,300 reviews and started from $105 per person on 4 November 2026, with lunch at Bourton as an optional extra. Its own lower-rated reviews also mention rushed stops, and some travellers found the minibus cramped.
  • A private Cotswolds day with a driver started from $697 for a group of up to four when we checked, about $174 per person with four people. It is rated 5.0 from only 10 reviews, too few for us to recommend it yet, so we have not linked it.

How we put this together

Nobody on our team has taken this tour, so this page is written from traveller reports and the operator's published details. We went through the lower-rated GetYourGuide reviews in English and other languages for what they say about the lunch, the time at Bibury and the October 2025 changes, and checked the itinerary, inclusions and booking notes on the live listing. The page was first published in September 2026 and rebuilt on 31 October 2026.

Rating, review count and price were checked on 31 October 2026, when GetYourGuide showed a 20% discount. Prices on these day trips change with the season.
